Chiang Rai is the northernmost province of Thailand and shares its borders with the Union of Myanmar (ex-Burma) and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in the Golden Triangle Region. Most of the province is mountainous. The richness of its soil and the relatively cool climate allow the region to have an abundance in agricultural production. The proximity with other countries has generated a mix of populations, a source of cultural diversity.
